Phikwe Tender Row In New Twist

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The tender row involving a Selebi-Phikwe councillor over alleged failure to declare interest in a multimillion Pula-water drainage rehabilitation project has brought into sharp focus politicians' involvement in tender awards.

Proposed government changes might see the exclusion of politicians from the tender award process. This, observers believe, will go a long way in curbing controversies over tender awards.

Under the current system, councillors have a bigger say in the awarding of tenders.
The Finance Committee at local authority level, which is composed of councillors, awards tenders.
