Phikwe Struck By Drug Shortage

Selebi-Phikwe has been experiencing a serious shortage of drugs in hospitals during the months of June and July when availability had dropped to 48 and 64 percent for each month.

This shortage was aggravated by failure to supply drugs by the Central Medical Stores. However, mayor Amogelang Mojuta says that the council has been given a waiver by the ministry to procure drugs from private pharmaceutical stores to ensure that the public continues to receive adequate medical services.

 
He added that the only problem that they encounter is that some drugs, especially those for hypertension or high blood pressure, and anti-diabetic medication, are not available in local pharmacies.
