SELEBI-PHIKWE: Government employees in Selebi-Phikwe have formed a committee to raise funds for colleagues who lost their jobs due to the recent civil service strike.

The money collected will be used to pay rent and buy food for the affected people. The employees chose the fundraising committee during a meeting organased by the Botswana Federation of Public Service Unions (BOFEPUSU). They expressed mixed feelings about the suspended strike with some saying it should end completely while others want it to be used as an intimidating tool against the government. One civil servant Etlhomilwe Raditshego said the strike must remain suspended.

He stated that the strike could be used as a tool against the government. He said the government must make commitments before workers can think of ending the strike. He said that one of the things the government must agree to is the reinstatement of essential workers who lost their jobs due to the strike.
