Phikwe cemeteries full

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The devastating effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic continue to be felt across the social spectrum with Selebi-Phikwe fast running out of burial space.

Selebi-Phikwe Mayor, Benjamin Bagayi told a full council meeting, Tuesday, that the mining town's cemeteries were almost full. Bagayi said a new site near the town's landfill had been identified.

"The township cemeteries, which are located in the north western area of Selebi Phikwe are about to be full so a new site near the landfill has been identified," Bagayi said.
Although the mayor did not allude to the scourge as the main reason behind the filling up of graves, Phikwe is known as one of the areas with a high HIV/AIDS prevalence in Botswana.
