Pastouchencko to be retried for defilement

The unavailability of a court interpreter has delayed the re-trial of convicted paedophile, Serguie Pastouchenko.

The 39-year old Russian will be re-tried on a single count of defilement after High Court judge David Newman found that there was nothing on the record of trial proceedings that any of the prosecution witnesses had taken an oath or made an affirmation prior to giving evidence.

The case was to be allocated a new magistrate and have a possible bail application but these did not happen because there was no interpreter during mention on Monday.
