Party backs Kwelagobe, says Dada

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) treasurer and a long time Kwelagobe ally, Satar Dada has quashed claims that the party secretariat has been sidelining chairman, Daniel Kwelagobe by withholding resources such as funds.

The party secretariat is said to have on many occasions refused to sponsor Kwelagobe's nationwide trips on party business. Though Dada denied it, a BDP insider insists that there is a deliberate strategy to undermine and humiliate the party chairman, for "exercising his constitutional rights, for protecting democracy" by challenging the party leadership to adhere to the party constitution. "DK" was against President Ian Khama's idea that no member should be allowed to stand for political office and party position at the same time.

Dada said that it was untrue that Kwelagobe was being sabotaged by the party secretariat as a chairman. He said that Kwelagobe "is given all the support he deserves" as party chairman.
