Parties approve political adverts on radio

Political parties have welcomed a request from radio stations to be allowed to air political party advertisements.

Three commercial private radio stations, Yarona fm, Duma fm and Gabz fm have asked the National Broadcasting Board (NBB) to introduce a new license condition that would allow them to broadcast political party notices for a fee.

The secretary general of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Mpho Balopi said he sees little or no change at all if political parties get to advertise on radio stations.  "There is really not much to be excited about because we are talking political parties here not private companies. I see it as a good move that will benefit both the radio stations and the parties," he said.
