Parmalat workers down tools over pay

Atleast 19 Parmalat employees have downed tools since Monday, but have been reporting for work only to mill about outside the factory premises.

The striking employees, who are mainly merchandisers (sales team), said their grievances started last year after calling for a salary increment, employee benefits, transport allowances and uniforms appropriate for their work.

While waiting for a response from management last year, they were initially told the company intended to outsource staff from another company.
