Parliament should appoint heads of oversight bodies - Modubule

Appointments of heads of oversight institutions like the Ombudsman should be done by Parliament after being advertised in the media to invite applications, the MP for Lobatse, Nehemiah Modubule, has said in Parliament.

The BMD legislator's comment was prompted by the recent naming of the former Director of the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM), Festinah Bakwena, as the Ombudsman.

Contributing to the debate on the committee of supply for the Office of the Ombudsman by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Modubule said it was important to avoid crippling service delivery that resulted from handpicking relatives and close friends for such positions.
