Parastatal CEOs are overpaid

A parliamentary committee report says government should institute investigations into over-remuneration of staff and wastage of funds in parastatals and hinted at the possibility of a criminal element in some of the instances of wastage in parastatals.

The parliamentary committee chaired by Gaborone West North MP Robert Masitara has also recommended the creation of a ministry dedicated to state owned enterprises as a means of bringing a stop to the gravy train that runs on excessive government subventions to parastatals.

CEO, senior managers and most staff of parastatals are overpaid, with the hundreds of millions of Pula that government pumps into these entities going towards hefty salaries and perks, a parliamentary committee says.
