PAP MPs relieved after finance report

JOHANNESBURG: Members of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) breathed a sigh of relief yesterday after the Finance and Monetary Committee released the much anticipated report.

Although there are still doubts about alleged fraudulent activities during the 2004/5/6 financial years, the committee has assured the MPs that the organisation is not facing any financial crisis, as reported in the media. Media reports brewed animosity between PAP and the mother institution, the African Union (AU), with the Addis Ababa-based Pan African body threatening to sanction the former.

Three days were set aside to thrash out financial matters after a motion by MP Bodinna of Algeria, requesting that the topic be given top priority. However, by the end of business on Tuesday all MPs had already made their contributions on the subject.
