Palapye police tackle burglary

PALAPYE: Police here have embarked on a campaign to bring down the increasingly high prevalence of burglary and house-breaking in the peri-urban village.

Palapye acting police commander, Meshack Ranku told Mmegi in an interview that the crimes have shown no sign of abating. He said Serorome and Tlhomadithotse wards are the most hard hit.  Ranku's charges have decided to be on costant patrol of the village and its outskirts.

"Apart from these crimes, we are also bothered by store-breakings, robberies and attempted robberies," he said. He pointed out that most robberies are not too violent, with assailants often robbing victims at knife point. Ranku said robberies in which criminals use firearms are rare in Palapye. He was however happy that they recorded only a few cases of murder in his policing area. He said they recorded only four cases of homicide - three of murder and one of suicide - in 2012.
