Palapye councillors complain of salary delays

Councillors in the Palapye sub-council are up in arms over delayed salary payments. A councillor in Tswapong North, who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals from his party, said they were expecting the salaries last week before the Easter Holidays, but "we were shocked when we found no money," said the councillor.

He said it was embarrassing to note that of the seven central district sub-councils, only Palapye was affected by the delay in payments. The councillor added that when they asked what could have caused the delay they were told that the on-going public service strike played a role, as some crucial offices in the treasury are closed as personnel is on strike.

"We wonder why they did not prepare well in time as they knew in time that government employees were likely to go on strike," he said.
