Palai Commends Red Cross Society

He told the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Botswana Red Cross at Cresta Lodge in Gaborone on Friday that the country does not have citizens living as refugees or internally displaced people because it respects the principles of humanity, voluntary service, unity and universality that underpin the Red Cross movement. He said Botswana has avoided civil strike and tolerates political and religious beliefs because it observes the principles. He said the way governments distribute resources and its attitude towards the people greatly influence whether or not humanitarian situations arise.
Palai said Botswana recognises and associates itself with the Red Cross principles because it is a party to the Geneva Conventions and other humanitarian law conventions.
