P362m earmarked for emergency water supply projects

Government has set aside a budget of P362 million for emergency water supply projects intended to address serious water shortages countrywide, the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Ponatshego Kedikilwe told parliament.

Kedikilwe said the funds are currently being used to restore water supply in some areas that have been experiencing water supply challenges and these include Molepolole and Kanye. The projects entail replacement of water tanks in various villages, procurement of water bowsers for various management centres, procurement and installation of back-up generators, repairing of tanks, equipping and electrification of boreholes, design and upgrading of water schemes.

Others involve construction of pipelines, installation of water treatment plants, interconnection of some villages and installation of prepaid standpipes in all management areas, and telemetry projects. Further Kedikilwe said standby generators have been provided for the Molepolole and Kanye boreholes as part of emergency funds.
