Outsourcing services leaves Botshabelo residents anxious

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Community members of Botshabelo ward have expressed fear over council's decision to outsource some of its services.

Residents expressed worry that service provision has caused them headaches, during a recent kgotla meeting addressed by the mayor Tebogo Matlhogonolo.   Residents said this made them realise that council had previously been doing its job well. Residents pointed out that water services that have been outsourced to Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), and health services from the Ministry of Health, have dismally failed them.  "We are suffering in Botshabelo South because there is no doctor stationed at Lesole clinic.  We are forced to travel to Botshabelo clinic for medical attention. This defeats effort to ease congestion there,Ó said one Itireleng May.

May's sentiments were shared by former councilor Alpheons Mashaba who expressed fear that the council's move will worsen the situation. "We are now faced with serious problem of sewerage spillages and portable water connections. Botshabelo is inhabitable because of stench emanating from sewerage water spillages,' he said. He added that outsourcing services will not necessarily alleviate the problems that council is faced with.
