Opposition welcomes Merafhe exit

A number of politicians who have known Vice President, Mompati Merafhe have welcomed his decision to retire from active politics.

For over two years, the new Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Dumelang Saleshando has composed what sounded like a song, urging Merafhe to retire before his record is tarnished. The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) president has now welcomed the decision by the vice president to quit.

He said yesterday that Africa is littered with examples of good leaders who later turned bad because they had overstayed. "In politics, there is no retirement age. So politicians should know that there comes a time when they have to say goodbye," he said.
