Opposition sneers at Khama's withdrawal of suit

Amid applause from Botswana Democratic Party stalwarts, the Botswana Congress Party believes that justice would have been better served if President Ian Khama's threat to sue the Sunday Standard for defamation went before the courts.

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) vice president, Kesitegile Gobotswang, believes Khama withdrew for fear of being declared an illegitimate president.

He said his party was disappointed that the case was scrapped, adding that the case would have given the courts an opportunity to decide whether or not Khama was in office legitimately.
