SELEBI-PHIKWE: As the standoff in Selebi-Phikwe Council threatens service delivery in the town, opposition members have advocated for a system where the people elect the mayor rather than councillors.

Under the current system councillors elect mayors and council chairmen.Botswana National Front Publicity Secretary Moeti Mohwasa said the current situation where residents cannot access services because of council squabbles should be an eye opener to the ruling government that the system should change.

"What has guided us over the years as the BNF is that there should be nothing for us without us.
