Opposition postpones GCC takeover

The opposition has postponed its takeover of the Gaborone City Council (GCC) for two weeks because of a technicality.

Opposition councillors were primed to oust the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) from the council leadership yesterday only to be thwarted by the fact that the law says they need to wait for another 14 days to realise their ambitions.

Councillor Ndiwaani Kenosi who tried to remove the mayor, Veronica Lesole of the BDP in March explained that there is a legal hurdle they have to overcome, hence they opted to adjourn the council meeting for 14 days.
