Opposition boycotts Mutharika

Members of opposition in Parliament have jointly said they will boycott a visit by African Union chairman and Malawian president Bingu wa Mutharika to Botswana because he is a dictator.

The parties, Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and Botswana National Front (BNF) said they were against Mutharika's visit to Botswana. Mutharika is in Botswana on official business.

Member of Parliament for Lobatse, Nehemiah Modubule, has said that he will boycott the official opening of the new Lobatse Stadium by Mutharika. Addressing a press conference in Gaborone last Friday, Modubule said his ethics, political values and belief in the principles of the rule of law and good governance, "do not permit me to share the stage with an individual of Dr Mutharika's calibre," he said.
