Oodima head threatens cook as strike affects school operations

Oodima Junior Secondary School headmaster, Gaonyadiwe Nyere has been accused of threatening to demote a recently promoted cook for taking part in the ongoing public sector strike.

According to a unionist at the school, the cook was promoted three weeks ago from kitchen hand and Nyere is alleged to have told him that his promotion would be revoked if he failed to return to work.

Because the school is operating with a skeletal staff, Nyere is also alleged to have threatened another teacher who had gone for oral interviews for the position of Senior Teacher. "With these two cases we wonder how many of our colleagues are being threatened and those who have chickened out of the strike for fear of victimisation by the school head," one of the teachers said.
