Old road signs are being phased out

The government is currently in the process of phasing out old road signs for new durable ones, Mmegi has learnt.

The Principal Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Doreen Moapare, said during an interview that they are currently phasing out the old road signs and replacing them with more durable ones as agreed upon by Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states.She said they want road signs with improved reflectability lifespan, hence the movement from a blue background to a white background.

She also pointed out that the speed limit signs used to regulate speed at 60, 80, 100 and 120 km/hr, with a red boarder on a blue background with white lettering will be phased out.
