Obituary- Kabo Mosweu

Members of the Kuru Family of Organisations, and the communities of Shakawe, Maun and Ghanzi are in a state of shock and disbelief after the tragic loss of one of the brightest stars of the San movement in southern Africa. Kabo Hendrick Mosweu, coordinator of the Trust for Okavango Cultural and Development Initiatives (TOCaDI), died in a fire that burnt his house to the ground, in the early morning hours of 19 November.

By the time his Letloa Trust and TOCaDI colleagues in Shakawe arrived at the scene they could only stand and watch in horror as the inferno, that broke out after midnight, devoured the prefab house until the whole structure collapsed, as the intense heat prevented anyone from coming close. The fire was first noticed by a neighbour and fellow staff member, who alerted the others. Police could only get to two bodies in the bedroom after the metal had started to cool down, by 05h00 in the morning. Forensic tests are being carried out, but the cause of the fire is still unknown. The assumption is that the other person who died in the house was Nkagisang Moruti, from Gumare. Police investigations continue.
