Nurse sues former housemate for defamation

A nurse is seeking P100,000 in damages, for defamation from a former housemate after the latter wrote a letter to colleagues alleging that the complainant was filthy and had tried to kill her children.

Tsholofelo Carol Monametsi, 26, a nurse in Francistown appeared in court before Justice Kholisani Solo alleging that her former housemate Aliya Portia Mabona defamed her character by writing a letter to the housing committee, her boss and some of her colleagues claiming that she (Monametsi) was filthy, and had caused cockroaches to infest the house by not cleaning it.

"My former roommate has also stated that I was abusive to her children, had tried to kill her children, that I befriend her mates and I was filthy," she said. Monametsi, who is represented by Thabiso Olatotse told court that all these allegations demeaned her character and that they affected her good standing. She further said that her colleagues and her clients have started treating her differently after these allegations.
