Odirile Motlhale of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has spoilt Lepetu Setshwaelo's lifetime dream of representing the South East South constituency in the National Assembly.

Motlhale, the newcomer in the constituency beat Setshwaelo, the joint candidate of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana Alliance Movement (BAM) by 6,084 votes to 5,739. Ramasu Mogatle of the Botswana National Front (BNF) got 762 votes. An independent candidate Patrick Mogapi went home with 117 votes, while 142 ballot papers were declared spoilt.

Motlhale did not only spoil Setshwaelo's weekend but even that of the BCP-BAM youth who started their celebrations on Friday night. A choir spent about 48 hours - from Friday to Saturday night singing songs stating how they want to see Setshwaelo in the august house.
