Botsalo Ntuane has made history as the first Leader of Opposition in Botswana to defect to the ruling party. The erstwhile Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) vice-president, rejoined the Botswana Democracy Party (BDP) yesterday after abandoning opposition politics on Monday (see statement on page 5). BDP executive secretary, Thabo Masalila says the ruling party is pleased to receive Ntuane back within its ranks. "Ntuane's application for re-admission into the BDP in terms of Article 8.5 of our party constitution was presented to members of the central committee this morning. We are delighted to announce that it was processed and approved unanimously effective from today.

The party extends a warm welcome to Ntuane; back to his roots and within our ranks; and to the party that he previously served with distinction particularly in his capacity as executive secretary.

We look forward to his contribution to the continued growth and strengthening of our party," he said. In his letter, Ntuane says he is resigning from the BMD to reconcile with the BDP. "Words are not enough to express how sorry I am.
