Ntuane goes AWOL

Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) vice-president Botsalo Ntuane was conspicuously absent from the party's policy assembly, where he was expected to pitch his idea for the BMD to have an alliance with the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Ntuane did not attend the BMD event, which was held in Selebi Phikwe over the weekend. He is said to have told some of his comrades that he was attending a relative's wedding on the same day. However, sources close to the party claim Ntuane's absence bespeaks a deeper rift that is tearing the new political party into sharp factional divisions.

There are two alleged factions in the BMD, which is a breakaway party from the ruling BDP. One is associated with Ntuane, and is said to believe that the only way for the party to make any significant impact at the 2014 general elections is through an alliance with the BDP. The other faction, is believed to be clear that there is absolutely no way the BMD can form political dealings with a party that they are diametrically opposed to.
