'Not just anyone can be an invigilator'

The capital city's inaugural public convention for teachers and the general public with the Committee of Inquiry into the 2010 examinations has heard that there is a lack of consultation in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD).

The small audience at the Gaborone Town Hall yesterday was made up predominantly of teachers. They decried what they said was a lack of transparency at a ministry that shoulders immense responsibility.

The teachers preferred anonymity, citing fears of intimidation. "This is a huge ministry tasked with the huge responsibility of educating the nation," said one teacher. "It shouldn't operate without consulting stakeholders."
