Northern Councils Forge Growth Plan For Districts

FRANCISTOWN: The Francistown City and North East District councils met Friday to map the way forward for the expansion of the city.

The Greater Francistown Planning Area Development Plan (1997-2021) will affect Tati Siding, Matshelagabedi, Shashe Bridge and some freehold farms in the North East District. Francistown Mayor. Buti Billy, said the Friday meeting was convened to give a blessing to the technical committee that was recommended by the task force and approve guidelines to be used in the implementation of the plan.

Apparently, the joint meeting, the third one to be held by both councils, this time held inside the city council chambers, was prompted by a decision of the Minister of Lands and Housing, Nonofo Molefhi, that urban related activities on farms be extended to include residential, commercial, civic, community and industrial land use.
