North East schools grapple with shortage of stationery

MASUNGA: Councillors from the North East have expressed concern over the shortage of education materials in schools in the district.

They suspect that this could be a contributory factor in the dismal performance of learners in most schools in the district. Councillors who spoke to Mmegi said shortage of school stationery is a major problem in the North East.

In Tsamaya councillor, Reginald Mudongo said schools have no textbooks and stationery hence learners are suffering. "This is not a problem in Tsamaya only as most schools in the district are affected. In Tsamaya students are also overcrowded in classes. In some classes, there are 35 to 45 learners. This is not good at all. A class is supposed to have a maximum of 25 students," he explained.
