No refunds for failed youth businesses - Kgathi

The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Shaw Kgathi told Parliament on Tuesday that re-funding youths whose businesses failed after the Youth Development Fund (YDF) bankrolled them, would be unfair. Kgathi argued that the YDF has a long list of applicants awaiting funding.

He contended that the ministry's policy not to re-fund youths is not unfair or misinformed as Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Phillip Makgalemele 'had insinuated'.

He said due to scarcity of resources, those who have not yet benefitted are given first preference. Kgathi said although the experience that one would have accumulated from managing a failed business venture may ultimately lead to business success, such instances would mainly be attributed to the promoter having refined the business strategy and aligned it to be more responsive to the dynamic business environment.
