No pardon for Motswaledi as talks collapse

Talks aimed at pardoning suspended Secretary General of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Gomolemo Motswaledi, have collapsed.

Former presidents, Sir Ketumile Masire and Festus Mogae say the talks failed yesterday when Motswaledi, who had written a letter of apology to Khama, went ahead to register his case against President Ian Khama with the High Court.

"Motswaledi had registered his case against His Excellency the President with the High Court," the two former presidents say in a written statement. "Consequently we were unable to proceed with the discussions."
