No Match For Billy In Francistown

FRANCISTOWN: The mayoral race here is expected to be peaceful as councillors are concentrating on campaigning to retain their wards.

Unlike the previous mayoral races that were characterised by factional fighting, this time the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillors from both factions have decided not to challenge mayor and Satellite south councillor, Buti Billy, for the seat.

Billy, who belongs to the Nkate-Merafhe axis, took the hot seat from Monarch South councillor, Ignatius Moswaane, in 2005. Since then Billy defeated the fearless Moswaane of Kwelagabe-Kedikilwe faction two times. The only time he gave up his spirited fight was this year. Applying a new tactic in the book the Kwelagobe-Kedikilwe divide sponsored former mayor, Peter Ngoma, a known Nkate-Merafhe functionary, to challenge his former friend, Billy.
