No judgement yet on retired workers

Six months since the initial hearing, Chief Justice Maruping Dibotelo is yet to deliver judgment in a case in which the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) and 17 former employees in the Ministry of Works and Communication are challenging the decision to retire them.

Dibotelo reserved judgment after hearing the case in November last year but is yet to come up with the final ruling.  The 17 employees who worked for the Central Transport Organisation (CTO) and the Department of Building and Electrical Engineering Services (DBES) were forced to retire last year by the former permanent secretary in the ministry, Carter Morupisi.

The Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) was mentioned in court as one of the institutions that compiled a secret report that influenced the firing of some of the employees.
