No arrests of escaped prisoners yet

Security agencies were yesterday still in search of three convicts who escaped from Gaborone Central Prison on Sunday afternoon alongside eight others who were arrested just outside the prison.

Dennis Alec Moyo (36) from Bulawayo was serving 13 years for rape and robbery while Shadreck Noel Tsoko (30) from Masvingo, Zimbabwe was serving five years for warehouse break-in. The third escapee is Patrick Muchenje (28) from Marondela, Zimbabwe, who was serving 19 years for armed robbery and rape.

Superintendent Modisaotsile Bonang of Central Police Station in Gaborone said prison officials reported the escape at around 4pm. "It was alleged that 11 inmates had escaped but upon arrival my officers were informed that only three were on the run while eight were arrested by prison officials," he said.He told Mmegi that the inmates allegedly used the motor vehicle entrance to escape following fracas with 10 prison warders. Bonang said the commotion started when the inmates were being taken back into their holding cells. He said that they have joined the hunt for the three suspects and will communicate with other agencies in the region to help trace them. Bonang confirmed that the three inmates could be linked to an incident in which a van belonging to Curry Pot was stolen at the University of Botswana.
