NLB leaves ward residents in squalor

SEROWE: There is a possibility of residents of Mhashwe Ward in Serowe being victimised by Ngwato Land Board (NLB) for refusing to relocate.

Apparently, NLB relocated residents to pave way for new offices the land board wants to occupy as they are said to have shortage of office space. The ward that is opposite the taxi rank, behind Shoprite and Mabogo Lodge, has turned into a haven for lawlessness and squalor.Mhaswe Ward is now charaterised by unoccupied houses, which belonged to those who heeded the call to relocate.

The remaining residents now face a problem of fear to walk through the area like they used to because it is now a hiding place for thieves and students who bunk classes.Walking into some of the house structures there are used condoms, cigarette buds, marijuana sheets and some bottles of alcohol. The area is very quiet and gives one goose bumps from the calmness, which seems like a scene from a scary movie. Most of the remaining people around the ward refused to talk to this paper for possible fear of further victimisation by the NLB since they were against the relocation in the first place.
