The MP for Gaborone Central, Dumelang Saleshando has called on President Ian Khama to sack the Minister of Education and Skills Development, Jacob Nkate, with immediate effect.

He described Nkate as unscrupulous and ineffective when commenting on the P1 billion supplementary budget for the Education Ministry on Monday. He said he suspects that Nkate has pocketed money through dealings with private tertiary institutions that have enrolled an excessive number of students.

He dismissed the minister's recent defence that public officers have misled him and he is not aware of over-enrollment in the private colleges. He told the House that Nkate has a dubious background citing the 2004 Lesetedi Commission, which investigated land allocations in Gaborone, in which the minister testified that he was misled. "We are dealing with an unscrupulous minister in this case. He is an ineffective minister who does not want to take responsibility for his ministries," he said.
