Nightclub owners win liquor case

Nightclub owners have secured a temporary victory against the government in the fight against the revised liquor and entertainment regulations.

The regulations imposed last month restrict liquor trading and entertainment hours. Nightclub owners filed an urgent application in court seeking a declaration that their special liquor trading licences are still valid despite the introduction of the regulations.  

Yesterday, Justice Isaac Lesetedi of Lobatse High Court ruled that nightclubs can continue to operate under the old dispensation until September, when their licences expire. The old licences entitle the nightclubs to operate their businesses between 8pm and 4am.
