NFTRC becomes regional focal point

National Food Technology Research Centre (NFTRC) has been designated a sub-regional focal point for Southern Africa by the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisation (WAITRO).

The public relations manager at NFTRC, Thatayaone Kepaletswe, revealed to Mmegi that as a focal point starting from this week until the end of March 2013, NFTRC will be strengthening regional technical cooperation by addressing capacity building needs, a coordination of research and development; information-sharing; improving intra-regional communication and networking of WAITRO members and fostering a synergistic and cohesive approach to fund-raising and project financing in the region.

"It has been given the mandate to communicate, liaise and develop programmes and activities on behalf of WAITRO with WAITRO members and research technology organisations from the SADC region," Kepaletswe said.WAITRO members and research technology organisations in SADC are Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Malawi, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mauritius.
