New shebeen law elicits mixed response

FRANCISTOWN: The new law regulating the sale of alcohol in households was met with mixed feelings at a Kgotla meeting in Natale village recently.

Tonota sub-district by-law officer, Modise Olefile said the law takes effect on July 1, 2012.  He explained that the law will regulate the sale of traditional alcoholic brews, excluding Kgalagadi Breweries Limited's Chibuku.

He said targeted brews include home-made brews such as khaki, setopoti, mokuru, mokubi and ila.
