President of the National Democratic Front (NDF), Dick Bayford has said their cooperation with the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) might eventually lead to a total merger.

He said they are working towards merging with the BCP though he cannot give a time frame. He said the merger would only come as a result of consultations with the rank and file of the party.

NDF joined forces with the BCP after the 2004 general elections. The party is now a group member of the BCP. Under the arrangement, NDF members stand for elections under the BCP banner. Bayford said they will use the BCP symbol during elections to avoid confusion. The NDF is also going to contest for primary elections with BCP members. Bayford is expected to be the BCP parliamentary candidate for Gaborone South in the 2009 general elections. During the last general elections, he contested the same constituency as an NDF candidate. Both the NDF and the BCP are splinter groups of the main opposition party, the Botswana National Front (BNF).
