NDF is still alive and kicking - Bayford

President of the National Democratic Front (NDF), Dick Bayford has stated that the party is not dead though it seems to have disappeared from the country's political radar. NDF is the newest political party in Botswana.

It is one of the many offshoots from the main opposition party, the Botswana National Front (BNF). Last year, it formed an alliance with another BNF offshoot, Botswana Congress Party (BCP). Bayford caused confusion recently when he kept referring to himself as BCP in both television and radio talk shows.  However, he told Mmegi that the relationship between BCP and NDF does not mean NDF has lost its identity and ideology.  He stated that the alliance allows each party to retain its identity as long as this does not impact on the relationship between the two organisations.

"We are still issuing NDF membership cards," Bayford said. He revealed that
the NDF allows dual membership and some of its followers have benefited from this arrangement. He said that the NDF and BCP will be going to the 2009 general elections using a BCP symbol but that does not mean NDF has been totally swallowed. He said that some parties have approached him to join them but he turned them down because he is committed to the BCP-NDF alliance.
