The Lobatse High Court has heard that Debswana Diamond Company wanted to inject over P600 million towards tourism project as a way of helping government diversify its economy.

State prosecutor Matlhogonolo Phuthego said during the on going criminal appeal by Joseph Matome and Garvas Nchindo that it is in their evidence that a proposal was put forward to Debswana Board and that the company was to inject about P600 million on the tourism project. Phuthego told court that documented evidence revealed that Tourism Development Consortium (TDC) was the vehicle through which Debswana wanted to undertake the tourism development project.

In fact, noted Phuthego, it was the defendents' evidence that TDC was an initiative of Debswana, before being hijacked by Nchindo, his son and Matome. Phuthego urged court to dismiss appeal on the basis that the magistrate findings were supported by evidence that the state brought forward.
