Nchindo lawyers press for postponement

Defence lawyers have urged the High Court not to hesitate to make an order postponing the corruption case against former Debswana managing director, Louis Nchindo and his co-accused.

The lawyers locked horns with the prosecution before Justice Maruping Dibotelo  over an application to postpone the main case. The defence wants the postponement of the case pending the resolution of an application they filed to be given further particulars of the charges. Nchindo, his son Garvas Nchindo  former Debswana employees Joseph Matome and Jacob Sesinyi face 36 counts of graft. They are scheduled to plead before Regional Magistrate Lot Moroka next Monday. A highly contested matter is how Nchindo and his company Tourism Development Consortium (TDC) acquired state land.

However, by yesterday, advocate Craig Webster for Nchindo and his co-accused argued for the main case to be postponed because the accused needed to be furnished with further particulars before trial can commence. "They ask for the opportunity to defend themselves without any impediments," he said.
