NBB handles broadcasting misconduct case

FRANCISTOWN: The National Broadcasting Board (NBB) has said it is dealing with a case of breach of the code of conduct for broadcasters during elections.

"So far there is one case we are dealing with and we will inform the affected parties in due course," NBB chairman Masego Mpotokwane told Mmegi by phone yesterday. He said the code is based on the provisions of the Broadcasting Act, and as such there will be a need to interpret the law to see if any penalties could be imposed on a guilty party.

Recently, there has been a hue and cry that the state-owned Btv acted improperly by broadcasting a statement from President Ian Khama on the internal feuding at the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). To make matters worse, the statement was read by the director of Broadcasting Services, Mogomotsi Kaboeamodimo, a supposedly neutral civil servant, who should not be involved in partisan politics.
