Nata, Sowa flood victims rescued

FRANCISTOWN: The disaster office in Tutume has come to the rescue of Nata and Sowa residents who were left homeless by floods with food hampers, blankets and tents.

Michael Chilimbe, deputy district commissioner of Tutume Sub-District said the recent rains left the majority of people homeless in the two villages."The Office of the President helped us with food and tents. We have given them to social workers in those areas that have in turn distributed them to affected households and families," he said. Chilimbe said they will collect the tents after three months as by then the flood victims would have built themselves shelter.

"If we find them not yet ready we will leave them but remind them to build themselves some shelter as the tents are supposed to be for temporary use only," said Chilimbe. He said the National Disaster Office also helped them with 20 blankets and mattresses which they gave to residents of Tshwane settlement, a few kilometres from Sowa.
