Nagafela may bounce back

Following the death of Member of Parliament for Letlhakeng West Maxwell Motowane last month, indications are that political parties are preparing for a by-election that it is likely to be held in February.

The Botswana National Front (BNF) will hold a constituency meeting in Takatokwane Village on Saturday the 19th to decide who should represent the party in the by-election. However, indications are that the former MP Filbert Nagafela who lost to Motowane by 34 votes to his 3,826 during the 2009 general election is the likely candidate. Only BNF and BDP fielded candidates then.

In an interview yesterday, Nagafela would not confirm his intentions to stand for the constituency, saying the general membership will decide the way forward. "There is a meeting for the general membership in two weeks' time and it will decide who should stand.
