Murder convict loses Court of Appeal bid

LOBATSE: The Court of Appeal has refused to reduce the 18-year sentence imposed on Thami Nyambe who was convicted of murder of a watchman at GoodHope bar.

Nyambe was appealing the sentence, arguing that there was nothing linking him to the offence.  However, a panel of judges upheld the sentence saying evidence led in court linked him to the offence as he was said to have been the one who shot the watchman during an attempted robbery.

The Court of Appeal also rejected Batsile Rakgole's bid for freedom. He was tried on three counts of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He was convicted on the last two counts and that of attempted robbery since they did not steal anything after the owner interfered by shooting and injuring them. Rakgole is said to have denied knowledge, but the court was satisfied that there was enough evidence linking him to the offence.
