Munhumutape fails to go on air

The controversial Munhumutape African Broadcasting Corporation (MABC) of Zimbabwe has once again failed to go on air though it has been granted an extension on two occasions.

There are doubts about the viability of the company in Botswana since its offices remain locked during working hours. The telephone lines have been disconnected. The company was granted a satellite subscription television licence by the National Broadcasting Board (NBB) in December 2007. The conditions of the licence said it was to start broadcasting within six months. But the company failed to meet the deadline and was granted an extension of six months by the NBB. Come the deadline on December 31, 2008, MABC once again failed to start broadcasting and got another six-month reprieve.

The deadline expired mid this year.
